NEWS: WILL THE REAL LEATHERWOLF PLEASE STAND UP? - 6/1/2015
Gweedo

Well June has started with a bit of excitement and drama from 80's metal band, Leatherwolf. The very public back and forth started May 30th with the old Leatherwolf Facebook page posting the below stating there was going to be a new Leatherwolf studio album.
Geoff Gayer and Carey Howe (songwriters of all Leatherwolf Music) are well in to the Songwriting process of a long awaited LW studio album. Surprisingly the tracks are very up to date, heavy and in effect very modern sounding metal, I was only privy to 3 sizzling tracks, all of which where superb masterpieces of real Metal, everything you would expect from two absolute guitar hero's. The tracks "Restless Fate" "The End" & "Red, White & Black" where very well written, produced and arranged pre production versions.
Wade Black on vocals, Pat Guyton on Bass
Dan Bruette (26 yr old pounder) on Drums.......more news to come in the near future for this expected Late Fall release.
There's the excitement. The drama comes in where any Leatherwolf fan would notice that the lineup is a bit lacking. Original members Dean Roberts (drums) and Michael Olivieri (vocals) are not in that lineup. Also what of guitarists Rob Math and Greg Erba that were just in the lineup that performed on the Monsters of Rock cruise. When asked, the response from the old Leatherwolf page was as follows;
Answers: Dean Roberts, Rob Math and Greg Erba don't write any of the LW material. Unlike Michael Olivieri who is an equally big part of LW songwriting like Geoff and Carey, is currently very busy with his solo project. Geoff and Carey support Michael in his endeavor and wish him success.
Further adding legitimacy to the announcement, singer Wade Black posted;
it is confirmed!! I will be recording the next Leatherwolf record!! To be released in the fall!!' Stay tuned for more info!! Stay METAL!!! \m/
All seemed well until the official Leatherwolf caught wind of this. They disputed the announcement with the below posting.
Hey everyone:

We just wanted to set the record straight regarding a statement/press release that's been put out there announcing a new LEATHERWOLF studio album featuring former LW members Carey Howe, Geoff Gayer and Wade Black. Whatever Carey, Geoff and Wade are working on - it will NOT be released under the name LEATHERWOLF! The legal rights to the name LEATHERWOLF lie with the line-up featuring original band members Dean Roberts and Michael Olivieri that recently performed on the Monsters of Rock cruise and Keep It True festival in Germany.

It is unfortunate that Carey Howe, the main instigator in all this, is trying to wreak havoc and create the false impression that he, Geoff and Wade are back in LEATHERWOLF, which is not the case. He may have succeeded in hijacking the original LEATHERWOLF Facebook page and YouTube channel but he will not succeed in hijacking the name LEATHERWOLF as well.

We ask you to please only consult the official LEATHERWOLF website www.leatherwolfmetal.com and this FB page for any and all news regarding band activities.

Also to add to the confusion Michael Olivieri said he's still in the band and that they are working on new music!
For those that have been asking if I'm still in Leatherwolf ....
The answer is YES! We're writing some killer new music and planning more shows to come!
Just had to clear that up...
Peace

This all sounds very much like the saga that Queensryche went through. I'd love to hear some new music from Geoff Gayer and Carey Howe because they wrote a lot of the Leatherwolf hits that I love. I've even support them if they were in a new band. It's also exciting to hear from Michael Olivieri that his camp is working on new music as well. I'm not a fan of Wade Black being the singer as his CD was re-recorded with Olivieri's vocals. That's pretty bad. My big questions though are; how does Pat Guyton fit in all of this being the supposed bassist for both bands? And why wasn't bassist Paul Carman included in any of the fun? Let's see how this Facebook drama unfolds. Hopefully it doesn't get too ugly and tarnish anyone's name. We all love music so let's just do what we love.
