REVIEW: CHARM CITY DEVILS - SINS 9/19/2012
Gweedo

Charm City Devils Sins is a great CD. This is the band’s sophomore album that took three years to get out. It is locked and loaded and unstoppable. Seriously, it hasn’t stopped playing in my CD player since I got it. To be honest, I was being really lazy and trying to convince myself not to write this review. The fact of the matter is that the CD is just so good. I had to do it. There are two singles out as of right now, Man Of Constant Sorrow and Unstoppable. With this second album, they really stepped up. The best way to describe it is a mix of southern rock and blues filtered through some heavy, gritty rock. When I listen to the tracks, I hear essences of Lynyrd Skynyrd and some bluesy guitar riffs.

Man Of Constant Sorrow is a great cover. They really grabbed a great song and modernized it without tarnishing it. (I’m looking at all you rappers who sampled and butchered classic songs!) This song has received a lot of radio play locally. Unstoppable is also great, getting some play time on WWE. The CD really energizes you and gets you singing the songs. You can tell there was a lot of emotion put into this CD. The songs are angry, passionate, driving, and in your face. Spite is a great example of this, proclaiming lyrically, “I won't stop, I'll push through, in spite of you.”
Jason Heiser really puts his foot in the bass drum and Anthony Arambula hammers on the bass creating a solid bottom to build on. The melodic lyrics and guitar work lay nicely on top of this foundation, making every track a listening pleasure. Don’t get the wrong idea though. Not all the songs are loud and fast. The album sends you on a musical journey of upbeat, loud, and soft songs. Charm City Devils prove that you don’t have to be loud to have a powerful song with Still Alive and Walk Away. Hats off to John Allen, for delivering some great lyrics, the rest of the band for having some awesome beats and riffs, and finally, Skidd Mills for producing and keeping all the instruments in check.
I highly recommend getting Sins. Every song on it is worth listening to, and overall, it just leaves you wanting more. I’d have to say the only con is that the CD feels short. It has 11 tracks totaling 38:20. Their site lists some outlets to buy it: http://www.charmcitydevils.com/.
