REVIEW: SLASH - WORLD ON FIRE 10/9/2014
Gweedo

I spent some time checking out Slash’s new album, World on Fire; soaring vocals, guitar solos, and groovy rock beats, what more could you ask for?! Slash’s third solo album brought back Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators to hammer out 17 awesome tracks. World on Fire seemed very cohesive like a full band wrote it instead of a collaboration. You can’t beat Myles Kennedy on vocals. Todd Kerns had some great bass parts and I really enjoyed Brent Fitz on the drums. The cherry on top was the fantastic album art that is a collage of popular figures and a yellow top hat smiley face housing a skull. Ron English is to thank for that. The tracks are dynamic and have catchy melodies making this my favorite solo Slash CD yet.

The first single title track is perfect. Fast paced and driving, it grabs your attention and keeps it. When Myles comes in with the lyrics you can’t help but sing along. The break downs, guitar solo, and dynamics are great. “Shadow Life” is another song that happens to be the next track on the CD that I love. I like how it starts out slow then goes full throttle with descending looping guitar and bass riffs backed with awesome drums. I really like how Fitz used a lot of different rock beats to fill it out. Kerns is excellent on “Automatic Overdrive”. He dominates walking all over the neck of the bass. Myles showcases his vocals on “Bent to Fly”. The final track I’ll mention is “Safari Inn”. An instrumental track that has screaming guitar work and lets Slash do what he’s good at!
I didn’t mention every track but take my word for it, there’s no bad song on here. Start to finish it’s fantastic with no filler. I didn’t even find myself skipping a track. Get this CD!! Make sure to catch them live as well. It’s that much better.
